Welcome Back!

I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer. I'm looking forward to seeing you in music class! Here's a quick look at some of the material we'll be learning in music this year:

Pre-K, K, 1: Our youngest students will learn folk songs & dances,  play simple rhythms on percussion instruments, and learn the basic concepts of dynamics and tempo.

2, 3, 4, and 5: Students in grade 2 will receive their new precorders, while grade 3 students will graduate to recorders. All students will learn, review, and/or expand their ability to recognize notes on the treble clef staff and their accompanying precorder or recorder fingerings.

6: We'll be focusing on music history, keeping listening journals, and preparing for a "Composer Bee," during which students will listen to and try to identify a musical piece and its composer. Students in grade 6 will also continue developing their ability to read music while learning to play ukuleles.

7 & 8: The theme for grades 7 & 8 this year is "Music as a Form of Communication." Students will participate in various activities to show how music can be used to communicate messages and ideas in different settings. Student will actively make music to convey messages and ideas by singing as well as playing percussion and ukuleles.

In addition, all students in grades 1-8 will spend time preparing for our Christmas and spring concerts. Our Christmas concert is on December 20th, and our spring concert on May 9th.
